Fox Hunting – The Sport of Posh Psychopaths?

Like many of Theresa May’s political moves, the appeal to lift the ban on fox hunting will be one of the most controversial. In place since 2005, the act condemns and criminalizes the act of hunting wild animals. However, I would argue that lifting the ban is not simply a politically controversial decision, but also morally corrupt.

Chasing and killing animals with dogs is not only barbaric and inhumane, but also a medieval practice that has no place in the modern world whose society prides itself on being intellectually and culturally enlightened. Alongside the UK having some of the most progressive animal welfare acts and conservation societies in the world, throughout the fight for its implementation, nearly eighty per cent of the British population supported the Hunting Act. The pains taken to implement these measures suggest to us the severity of such acts and the degree of public compassion towards the welfare of animals.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the appeal to lift hunting bans will form part of the Conservative Party manifesto in the upcoming General Election. Should the hunting ban be lifted, it will only further prove to us the moral and political discrepancies of this country’s elitist leaders and will set a new precedent for future generations that such barbaric practices are acceptable.

Therefore, I think a repeal of the Hunting Act would not only give permission to resume hunting on foxes, deer, hare and mink but also allow to the deluded minority elite of this country to think that that their “sport” is acceptable, while the rest of the country suffers from a crippling economy. Such agendas for the Conservative manifesto highlight their misplaced priorities and further affirm the assertions that they only cater to a dying segment of society.

Allowing this “sport” would only support the doctrine that ‘might is right’, and is simply wrong. I believe that our country can benefit from a redirection of efforts into policies that can improve the economy, health-care and security rather than supporting the abominable hobbies of the upper classes.

  3. Woah! I’m really enjoying the template/theme of this website. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say you’ve done a amazing job with this. In addition, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Internet explorer. Exceptional Blog!
