It never fails to surprise me how fast a month seems to go by. I was particularly sad to see August go by as it meant it was time for me to go back to University for my journalism internship before classes started. The summer was one of my best so far and now with days getting slightly shorter and a hint of autumn in the air, I’m actually kind of excited for winter, cosy sweaters, hot chocolates and of course, Christmas! So long summer…
August saw me trying a lot of new things and discovering a few old favourites that had been shoved in drawers and hidden away on shelves. Today I’m pilling together all of my favourite things from August and throwing them your way incase any of them take your fancy! It might be a bit of a long one so bear with me, grab a cup of coffee and snuggle up on a sofa!
First up is my little blue Polaroid camera that I received for my birthday this year and I have used it non-stop this summer! Call it cliché or what have you, but there’s something just so lovely about having a picture in your hand as soon as you capture a moment. The photos come out in a little polaroid and within seconds you have an exact replica of minutes just gone by, for you to keep forever. I’m a big fan of this little guy and although the films are a little more on the expensive side, the end result is just beautiful!
I’ve always opened up my Naked Smokey Palette and every time I’ve swatched all the shades, marvelled at how bloody gorgeous they are and promised myself to use it a lot more. I never really did until this last month and I have to say I’m absolute blown away by how beautiful this palette is. I’ve been using most of these shades on a daily basis and I like how easy they are to work with. Their texture and blendability rivals that of my Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette and I’m excited to see what other looks I can come up this Autumn. Stay tuned for a detailed review on this beauty.
This past month I’ve also tried a little more to keep up with news and current affairs and for someone who finds it a little tedious to go buy an entire paper and then thumb through it to find a story that interests me, I find that having a news app on my phone has been a godsend! I feel like I’m in the loop with everything going on, without it having to feel like a chore. WIN-WIN.
A book that’s been my best friend this month is Machiavelli’s “The Prince”. I got the chance to read some extracts from it for a politics class last year and thought I would read it properly this summer. There are a few things that I find a little hard to grasp but on the whole I think I agree with Machiavelli’s concepts. I’m planning on writing an in-depth review soon, but if any of you have read this book, let me know in the comments section below as to what you thought!
Lastly we have two more makeup bits that I’ve been slapping on my face without a care in the world. As my oily-skin friends out there will agree with me, there is nothing more satisfying than finding a powder that takes away all the shine and that actually makes your skin look beautiful. I found all of these things in Clarin’s Ever Matte Powder and I’ve got to say that the packaging, the product itself and the finished results get a big ten out of ten from me!
I’ve been keeping my makeup quite minimal and skin focused recently aka: a quick job of concealer, powder and mascarra and I’m out the door! And the brush I’ve been using to apply and buff out my concealer is the Zoeva 110 Face Shape Brush, which is literally a tiny version of a buffing brush. It is sooooo good; the bristles are soft and shaped into a little dome and the size makes it perfect to buff away concealer underneath the eyes and around the face. I think I’ll be using this little guy a lot for the months to come!
